(Full-time – over 40 hours a week)
French and Spanish Translator, Florida School for the Deaf and Blind
September 2013 – Present – St. Augustine, FL
I translate school-related documents as needed in both French and Spanish. This includes medical documents, Individual Education Plans, psychological reports, social reports and correspondence between the school and home. (Part-time – as needed)
ESOL Teacher for the Blind, Florida School for the Deaf and Blind
August 2011 – February 2020 – St. Augustine, FL
I taught English as a Second Language to mostly Spanish-speaking blind students who were amazing kids! I had a Smartboard in my classroom and incorporated technology into my teaching whenever possible. I taught a hybrid course in Google Classroom, and developed skills in assistive technologies. I taught differentiated education in high school classes and worked with K-8 students one-on-one. I always enjoyed technology and helping my visually-impaired students develop these skills to become successful academically.
Spanish Language and Culture Trainer, Florida School for the Deaf and Blind
November 2013 – May 2015 – St. Augustine, FL
I taught an intensive beginning Spanish language course to teachers through a Title I grant. The course was developed as a flipped classroom model with the students watching animated Spanish grammar videos I created and then going to Quia.com to play educational games to reinforce what they learned. Then we practiced what they learned in class, communicating mostly in Spanish. Furthermore, the students collaborated on documents in Google Drive, engaged in Smartboard activities, and watched animated dialogues to reinforce grammatical concepts. Hispanic culture was also taught as part of the course. (Part-time)
